Dad's fun

I had a horrible migraine the other day so when Nick got home he packed the girls up with dinner and took off. He always seems to find something fun to do so here are some pictures of their adventure up the canyon.

Yoga Master

Yesterday I was getting ready to go running and Addie asked me, "Are you going to go do Yoga?" I told her that I was going running not doing Yoga. She said, "No lets do Yoga instead." I ignored her and continued getting ready and then I looked over and there she was in down dog repeating, "breath in through your nose breath out through your nose breath in through your nose breath out." I guess she pays more attention to the yoga video then I thought.

Addie turns three

Addie turned three on May 20th and since all the rest of our family has birthdays the same week she had two parties. The weekend before we celebrated with Nick's family and the next weekend we had a party for her and Nick at our house. She was so excited about her birthday this year and for three months told everyone that she wanted a sleeping bag, a soccer ball, a Christmas tree, and a wagon. Luckily she received three of those gifts I'll let you guess which one she didn't get.

That night she really wanted to sleep in her new sleeping bag, so we put it on her bed and she climbed in and went to sleep. A couple of hours later we heard a loud thump and went to check it out. Addie had fallen off her bed and was stuck in between the wall and her bed in her sleeping bag and was frantically trying to escape. Her sleeping bag was so slippery that she couldn't keep it on her bed. So we finally convinced her to unzip it and just leave it on top of her.

St. George Tri

Warning: this is a long post. As a summary, racing is fun. If that is enough for you then I just saved you a good minute and a half. If not, read on.

Last weekend was the first race of the year. May triathlons are tough. Anyway, we went down to St. George with Natalie's Mom and the girls Friday afternoon. We wanted to do a test swim in the reservoir that day so we tried to get there as quickly as possible and luckily the girls were OK with that. I think having Grandma in between them on the whole trip down didn't hurt.

We got to the reservoir, got all suited up and realized that we were actually going to go swimming in the Arctic Ocean. The water hit your face like a brick. After some initial panic attacks and a hard-way lesson in spotting we got out and got warm, not necessarily feeling better about the swim the next day but glad to be out of the water.

On race morning the wind picked up. I started in the first wave and didn't feel the temperature of the water (which was cold) because I was watching the waves that I was about to swim against and the far buoy which looked to be positioned somewhere around Timbuktu. As I turned the second buoy, which I was only able to spot by almost running into it, I thought about the fact that this was going to be Sean's first race experience. I felt bad. The I got a face full of water and continued to worry about myself. (I am a selfish jerk) As it turns out the sprint didn't even get to swim because of conditions so that was a good five second of worry totally wasted.

Everybody got to bike through the wind and through the Sahara. There are some sand dunes on the south side of the reservoir on either side of the road, that is unless the wind is bad, then the dunes don't worry so much about staying on the sides of the road. Road slicks and sand dunes are an interesting combination.

The run was good with a big sand hill in the middle that woke the legs up nicely. In all it was a tough but good course. Now Natalie has her first race after having Lizzie, I have my first Olympic, Sean got to race his first race without fighting that wonderful swim, and Laurie got hosed out of her best event in the race. OK, so maybe not ideal for all but a fun trip anyway.

Pictures to come.

Live Rich

In April Nick and I were able to participate in Hometown Hero's a program that raises money for the Huntsman Cancer Center. We were on the Live Rich team. The team was formed by my cousin who had brain cancer. He wanted to find a way to say thank you to all the people who had helped him and he did. Nick and I both did the Bike race and it was a lot of fun. It was also a great experience and we were so grateful for all of those who helped us raise the money. Thanks!

Crazy Girl

Quiet time in my house is a bad sign. I frequently find Addie into all sorts of trouble. One of the less frustrating things she does though is put on crazy outfits. If I get her dressed nice and do her hair so we can go it is a sure thing that this will happen:

Life Goal #1, Check

This is an after-the-fact post but I wanted to put it up here because it was such a significant day in all of our lives. Addie can officially be one of those kids that says, usually in a pretty snotty way, that she went skiing for the first time when she was two. It almost brings a tear to my eye. She was a little distracted by the mountain of snow for the first run. All she wanted to do was "eat the ice." So I skied down holding her up between my legs. The next run up I had the idea to tell her that the snow was only good to eat at the bottom and that the snow on the top of the mountain was yucky. A little deceitful but it definitely got the job done. Add to that the fact that she got a piece of a "'nolar bar every lift ride up" and she was hooked. She actually did really well too. I am still a proud Papa about the whole thing. Here are a couple of pictures that I managed to snap in between my tears of joy.
